Newport City, 2029. Major Motoko Kusanagi, a highly advanced female cyborg and the leader of Section 9, an elite counter-terrorism unit, investigates a new cybervirus capable of controlling minds and altering its victims’ memories. The prime suspect, known as the “Puppet Master”, is as mysterious as he is elusive and becomes the target of an intense manhunt. Meanwhile, Section 9 finds itself competing with Section 6, which operates on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its mysterious Project 2501.
