To celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Met: Live in HD, this new season offers a rich and diverse programme, including two Shakespearean masterpieces by Verdi: Macbeth (a new production) and Otello, two dramas in which human passions inevitably lead to destruction. Be swept away by the tragic love stories of Manon and the Chevalier des Grieux in Massenet’s opera, Samson and Delilah in Saint-Saëns’ work, the adventures of Minnie and Dick Johnson in Puccini’s Wild West, and Parsifal’s spiritual quest in Wagner’s masterpiece. The season also offers a lighter touch with Mozart’s romantic comedy Così fan tutte and a venture into contemporary opera with Kevin Puts’ Silent Night, inspired by the same events as the film Joyeux Noël – a miraculous Christmas truce between enemy soldiers in 1914.
